The City of Sheboygan acquired the defunct Boston Store in its downtown with the intent to encourage a private residential development on the north half of the site that would provide a backdrop for this new City Green, a civic park with performance pavilion. The park serves to link the Mead Public Library to the west and the Kohler Art museum to the east into a three block civic district. HKM designed both the City Green with its Pavilion structure, and The Encore, the privately developed apartment building. The City of Sheboygan hosts a popular and highly attended summertime concert series at the City Green, closing 7th Street for food trucks, vendors and displays in cooperation with the Kohler Art Museum. The new steel and concrete pavilion structure builds on the lakeside character of Sheboygan. Thematic concrete pylons and seat wall continue the hardscape theme into the park.
